brightening up the basement bedroom

Tanya List

Until Ry and I figure out exactly what we are doing with adding a new garage/addition to our little house….we are stuck sleeping in the basement.  We gave Reid the one bedroom upstairs and my workspace (studio) took over what was supposed to be our bedroom:)  So i figured since we are down in the basement for a least another 6 months- year we needed a little colour infused into our space.

I still need to paint the walls and the side tables, but to start, i updated the headboard and pillows.

Home made art

Tanya List

I always loved art.  Always wanted art. …..but could really never afford to buy the pieces that i loved.  So, about 6 years ago i marched down to the art shop and purchased the largest canvas they had:)  I stared at it for almost a year before i had the guts to paint it.  Now it’s become an obsession.  I love the instant gratification that you get from seeing the colour become something a little more:)  Below are just a few painting and other random “home-made art” that i hung on the walls today (trust me, i have waaayyy more paintings….ry laughs that we don’t really need to paint the walls anymore…)

This was made from left over grass cloth for the background and tiles from our old bathroom in Etobicoke….i loved those tiles…so granny.  Please excuse the nasty counter tops in the left hand corner…one day they will be changed:

A nod to my granny:)

Tanya List

Now that we are living on the water, i decided that the house needed a few beach elements (p.s still loving for a surfboard).
As a kid i remember my grandma List having many mirrors, frames, furniture ect all covered in seashells ……i was obsessed with them back then and apparently still now:) Since meeting Ry we have been on a few vacations together, all along the way collecting shells from different beaches.  Lets just say that i had a “small” collection that i have been carting around for a few years now.  When we moved into the new house i found them….then also found a mirror that again i’ve had for years (it was collecting dust in the garage) never loved it, it was just really cheap at a garage sale so i bought it.  This project is a collaboration of the 2 combined……….might be my favourite piece yet!!!

Kitchen hardware=i love lee valley

Tanya List

Well the kitchen cabinets are 95% done.  Still waiting for the rest of the hardware to be shipped to the house from Lee Valley.  For now here is a sneak peak at the hardware i choose.  Kind-of-in-love with them:)  For those that know me…i don’t do silver or stainless…not sure why, but i’ve always had a love for the gold.  So, when choosing the new handles i picked out an antique brass, $5.10 each from Lee Valley, a little more than the average home depo, but in my opinion, totally worth it:).

Now all we need is to get a new counter top….Ry says we have to wait till spring…..I’m not so sure about that:)!!!!

Muskoka renos:)

Tanya List

Well, i’m officially back and ready to show off some of our renos!!!  Ry and i have been ridiculously busy painting (yup i would say the cabinets alone took  80-90 hours, hanging curtains, ripping up our yard 150 feet to the water (long story),  painting lite fixtures….many of them…..and of course drinking wine and looking out onto our amazing view the Muskoka river:) Here is the first of many to come:

Ry and all the construction workers outside my house were looking at me like i was more than nuts when i had this whole set up going on in the front driveway.  BUT….damn i was right…look at this chandelier….looks like the one i’ve been coveting for years that costs close to $5000.00.  Tanya List Design version $150 chandeliere+2 cans of spray paint $16 (gold/turquois)= $166.
